By Scott Rodgers

Some times a new shower head needs to be installed in place of an existing old unit. A good new model can contribute to a pleasurable showering experience. Changing a shower head to replace a broken unit or adding a new model to enhance the bath is not a cumbersome process. Here we will discuss various steps for doing it.

Different tools required for fixing a new shower head are- a new shower head, adjustable pliers, masking tape, plumbers tape large towel or a piece of cardboard. Assemble these tools before you start the changing process to finish your work with no trouble in the mid.

Market is flooded with different kinds of shower head, such as eco-friendly, water-limiting nozzles and spa type showers. All of these have their own advantages and disadvantages. You need to select one that matches your requirements the most. Don't forget to cut the water supply before starting the replacement process.

Using adjustable pliers unscrew the old shower head from the shower stem. You need to revolve the old shower head in anti-clockwise direction till the time it is out from stem.

Start cleaning the threads of shower stem, once you have removed the old shower head. Any piece of tape or any other waste thing in shower stem can cause loose seal packing and results in leakage. So ensure that you have properly cleaned the stems, you can also use a paper towel for this purpose.

Now you need to apply tape around the thread to have a watertight seal. Teflon Tape is best in this regard. Apply the tape is same direction in which you will fix new shower head otherwise the tape could bunch up or tear while fixing the new shower head and may cause a leak.

Once you are done with tapping of shower stem, next step is to fix the new shower head at threaded pipe and rotate it in clockwise direction. While rotating take care that you rotate it till the point it gets tightened, over rotation can cause a leak in the shower.

At last just turn on the water supply to the shower and test all of the unit's features and if it is working fine, your new shower is ready and your work is over. - 30517
